Our Training

Each Tuesday we will now be offering the following sessions:

  • Two interval session on Clapham Common
  • One guided 5km run on Clapham Common
  • 5km timed run first Tuesday of every month in Battersea Park

To become a member complete this online form and pay the annual registration fee. Please note, all sessions are available to drops-in or non-members.

Before you come to a session you MUST complete the pre-registration form to ensure we have up to date contact details for you.

All runners must familiarise themselves with the club rules below.

Our Coaches

Vicki Coleman
Coach

Vicki joined Clapham Pioneers in 2013 and became a Leader in Running Fitness since 2017. A big believer that ‘you get out what you put in!’, she’s known for sessions that are challenging but rewarding. Perhaps due to her northern roots, she has a strange fondness for running up hills and has twice completed the 23km du Mont Blanc.

Jo Winnick
Coach

Jo is our Chairperson and a founder member of Clapham Pioneers. She has completed Edinburgh, Paris and London marathons and has been a Leader in Running Fitness for around 6 years. She loves motivating our members to do their best in her interval sessions, especially when they are taking on her favourite Battersea park “lampposts” session!

Anneka Dew
Coach

Anneka has been a Leader in Running Fitness at Clapham Pioneers since 2017 and really enjoys helping club members achieve their race goals through interval training. Her favourite distance is the half marathon, but she does also relish the challenge of a full marathon, having completed both London and Manchester in good for age time.

Chloe Selwood
Coach

Chloe joined Clapham Pioneers in 2018 with her husband Paul. She describes Pioneers as a 'breath of fresh air'. Her biggest achievement to date is being able to run again after a cardiac arrest, open heart surgery and has an ICD. She has recently joined our coaching team with a personal focus on training seriously so she can enjoy distance running again. Her ideal interval session is short, sharp and effective.

Sarah Prescott
Coach

Sarah is our Communications and Media Secretary and has been a member of Clapham Pioneers since 2011 and a Leader in Running Fitness since 2017. Sarah's favourite session is 'out and back' always challenging, always rewarding. 'I love seeing those determined faces during a session'. Her running goals for 2021 include a sub 25 mins Parkrun.

Paul Gilbertson
Coach

Paul joined Clapham Pioneers in 2018 with his wife Chloe. Looking for a club that wasn't too 'serious' they found Pioneers. He has recently joined our coaching team with a running goal for 2021/2022 to get a good for age marathon time. Paul is a distance runner, completing many ultras and marathons. His ideal interval session is short and sharp. 

Kirstie Norgate
Coach

Kirstie is our Club Treasurer joining Clapham Pioneers in 2013. With the help of the club she ran her first marathon (of now 5) in 2014. She became a Leader in Running Fitness in 2017 and loves to encourage people to push themselves and particularly enjoys putting everyone through their paces on hills sessions.

Michael Wiggins
Coach

Michael is a big fan of all things running and racing, tackling anything from 1 mile to ultra-marathons. He loves nothing more than seeing other runners reach their goals, whether that’s a Parkrun PB or completing their first marathon, and everything in between. Michael is the founder of our Sunday runs and is an excellent ambassador for our club. He is qualified Leader in Running Fitness, his favourites sessions include Pyramid and the 5k timed run.

Lindsay Murray
Coach

Lindsay, is part of our 'dynamic duo' Head Coach team, she joined Clapham Pioneers in 2017. Her specialties are focusing on strength and endurance, with tough interval sessions aimed at making you a stronger runner over longer distances in particular. Her proudest running achievement is coming 2nd with the 2019 Pioneers ladies team in the Green Belt Relay. Her pre-race dinner is 'pasta, pasta, pasta'. Lindsay is a qualified Leader in Running Fitness.

Rob Jones
Coach

Rob is our Membership Secretary and is a qualified Leader in Running Fitness joining our coaching team in May 2020. He focuses on pacing and endurance. He particularly loves a good pyramid training session, so you can train your mind and body to nail that elusive negative split in the marathon or half-marathon.

Rebecca Spencer
Coach

Rebecca is our Social Secretary and newest member of our coaching team recently qualifying as a Leader in Running Fitness. Her proudest running achievement is a sub 2-hour half marathon in 2020 at Hampton Court. She loves our 5k timed run, she knows other club members of a similar speed, so it's a nice opportunity to push each other along! Welcome to the team!

Will Bunker
Coach

Will, is part of our 'dynamic duo' Head Coach team, he joined Clapham Pioneers in 2009. Will is a qualified Leader in Running Fitness joining our coaching team in May 2020. He specialises in guided long runs, with our tough 8-mile Westminster route his specialty. His sessions focus on endurance, perfect for Will who himself has been known to run the odd ultra-marathon or two!

Running other days

Clapham Pioneers only has one official club night:Tuesday. However the club is a great way to meet other local runners. Many of the club members have met training buddies to go out with on other nights or at the weekend, especially when training for a race.

Please note: when undertaking activities outside the Tuesday club night, these are not within the usual business of Clapham Pioneers and you do so at your own risk.
